STEP 1: Curating the Data

This project analyzes a rare North Korean military newspaper recently acquired by the Harvard Library. With the methodological considerations underlined in the previous sections in mind, this section covers the initial stage of data curation and digitization, which is the first step of this project before any research question is considered. This emphasis on general-purpose digitization is a conscious decision taken due to the lack of publicly available information about the newspaper. In other words, this project first asks what questions about North Korean history can we ask with the given source instead of jumping to ask questions at the outset.
